Uncovering Passions, Crafting Futures

Welcome to Edition 2 of Harry’s Guide.

Dear Members of The Guide,

This edition of the newsletter will cover these pillars

  • Control and Choice

  • Discovering Your Calling

  • Writing Online

Welcome to the second edition of Harry's Guide, your compass for navigating the vast seas of opportunity and creativity.

My goal is to empower you with insights and tools to chart your own course towards personal and professional fulfillment.

Creating content online can be very rewarding, having a plan or framework to work within helps when getting started.

Every year, over the gap between Christmas and the new year, I pick a few books to start the year reading, and I buy a large A4 leather-bound notebook.

I then try to write down a plan for the year ahead, using the books to springboard my year.

This year, I chose

The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday.
366 Meditations on wisdom, perseverance, and the art of living.

The Daily Laws by Robert Greene.
366 Meditations on power, seduction, mastery, strategy and human nature.

Each is a book in the format of a daily piece on a particular facet of life.

Each day, I will be reading from two great writers.

Today, I received the notebook and the books.

In honour of starting this yearly habit, today two of the newsletter sections will be about day one of the books.

Control and Choice
Decision-making and self-governance.

I was reading the daily stoic today by Ryan Holiday Day 1 of the book, is titled Control and Choice, and the page is devoted to this idea of understanding what we can change and what we can’t.

I believe that life's quality is determined by the choices you make and how you control their outcomes.

There are strategies to help you make informed decisions, manage risks, and stay at the helm of your life's journey.

In the dance of life, understanding the rhythm of control and choice is essential.

You are only as weak as your opinions on the things that happen in your life.

Unraveling this complex interplay.

It's about recognising the delicate balance between what lies within our realm of influence and what falls beyond it.

We often grapple with external circumstances—the unpredictability of the world, the actions of others, and the whims of fate.

It's crucial to acknowledge that while these factors shape our environment, our response to them is where our true power lies.

This journey of discernment is not about surrendering to helplessness in the face of the uncontrollable, but rather about harnessing our inner strength to make choices that reflect our values, aspirations, and authentic selves.

Through this understanding, we find a sense of empowerment and peace, knowing that while we cannot control the wind, we can always adjust our sails.

Discovering Your Calling

Day 1 of The Daily Laws tasks itself with discovering your true calling.

“Mastery is a process, and discovering your calling is the starting point.”
Robert Greene

Finding your true calling is like uncovering a hidden treasure.

It’s there, waiting for you, but the path is not always clear.

My aim is to help you find work that doesn’t just pay the bills but also fulfills you.

Welcome to a journey unlike any other—the quest to discover your true calling. Like a hidden treasure waiting to be unearthed, your calling lies dormant, ready to be revealed.

The path to it, however, is often shrouded in mystery and self-discovery.

Unveiling Your Passion

I believe that every individual has a unique set of passions that, when pursued, lead to a fulfilling life.

Figure out what these are and orient more of your life around them.

Strengths: Your Personal Arsenal

Knowing your strengths is like having a compass on this journey.

Whether it's your creativity, empathy, analytical skills, or resilience, understanding and utilising your strengths can propel you towards a career that doesn't just meet your financial needs but also aligns with your personal values and interests.

Writing Online

In the digital age, writing online is not just an art, it's a powerful tool for personal branding, networking, and thought leadership.

Why start a newsletter? Is one question I will try to answer.

In a digital world flooded with fleeting interactions, finding a meaningful and sustained connection with an audience often feels like an uphill struggle.

That’s where the allure of newsletters comes in, and that’s why I’m embarking on my own newsletter journey with Harry’s Guide

Starting a newsletter can be a rewarding endeavour

  • Sharing your journey

  • Connecting with people

  • Educating people on your expertise

  • Sharing products or services

  • Generating revenue

The long-form nature of a newsletter allows you to convey multiple pieces of information in different sections.

A newsletter isn’t just about sending out regular updates.

It’s about sharing the highs and lows of your journey, connecting with individuals from various walks of life, and establishing a space for learning and growth.

As always, I value your feedback and ideas.

Feel free to reach out with suggestions for future topics or any thoughts on how we can make Harry's Guide more valuable for you.

Here's to your journey of growth and discovery!

Best regards,

Harry
